Record passengers carried on UK tramways

The Department for Transport have released their annual light rail and tram statistic in England for 2016/17. The figures show that all tramways in England enjoying increased passenger numbers with the exception of the Tyne and Wear Metro which was affected by ongoing modernisation with lines closed for long periods. In other news it has also been revealed that Edinburgh Trams have also seen a 9.4 increase in passengers carried with 5.8 million in 2016/17. This has also meant that they have exceeded targets with the latest accounts recording a pre-tax profit of £252,000.
