With the long-term future of the Douglas Bay horse tramway remaning in the balance, and the planning application submitted by the Department for Infrastructure for the Promenade's reconstruction between the Sea Terminal and Harris Promenade making no provision for tracks, the Manx Electric Railway Society has issued a strongly worded press release decrying the proposals.

The horse tramway operation for this year began on 30 April and is operated by Isle of Man Railways, part of the Department of Infrastructure.
